For several years, Miss Molene was undisputed Purplehull Pea-Shelling Champion. She has slowed down a bit, but here exhibits the pea-shelling skills which won her Third Place in 2003. Note she grasps several shells at one time, and strips the peas with her thumb. This year, she and another lady tied for Third Place, and it was necessary to have three 1-minute runoffs to determine the winner. All three times, Miss Molene shelled 2.5 ounces of peas in the allocated minute. On the third attempt, her opponent only shelled 2.25 ounces, and Miss Molene was declared Third-Place winner.
