I am researching Campbell Missouri. I wanted to tell you that another web site has some different information regarding the four mile house available at http://civilwartraveler.bravepages.com/FM/FMP1.htm .

Picture of original house in Hughes Home --- This building was originally called the Taylor Hotel during the Civil War. It was built in 1860 by Leander J. Taylor, one of Four Mile's original merchants. It was later called the Given Owen House as it was bought by Dr. Given Owen in 1866. At one time Four Mile had contained two dry goods stores, a blacksmith and a post office. When the railroad went through Campbell, Mo.. all the merchants moved there.

Both my mom and dad's family lived in Campbell. I spent many happy summers with my Grandma Perkins and going to the little store with a handful of pennies to come back with a bag of candy.

Thanks to your great web site we will visit Chalk Bluff after attending the Glennonville picnic. I grew up in Glennonville but never went there. My mother Laura Manning Smith was the 3rd (1905) family to move into the new town of Glennonville. My Father Carroll and his family came in 1909. Lots of fond memories

Dear Hal, Thanks for a colorful and informative web page about Campbell. I'm working on a history of my family from Campbell ... Pennington, Gunnels, Lee, Rodery and Like, and slowly gathering information on the area as well. It has been many years since I last visited and the only one of my father's generation of brothers and sisters who is alive is my uncle, Chester Monroe Pennington, who is 89 and lives in California. I'm still searching for plat maps of the county and some detailed information about the Indian mounds. One of my great-aunts discovered the little boy hanging in the woods who was killed during the Civil War. I'll keep watching for new entries. Ypsilanti, Michigan

Hope all went well and I can't wait to see the photos ... hope you took lots of pictures of Woodie and the gang. Good job on the web site!

I was looking up pictures of things from back home to show my new friends here in Mississippi. I just moved from there. I remember you very well ... I worked at a local resturant that burnt and is now owned by Linda Baggett.

You have some very good photos on your site. It's nice that someone has taken time to post these. I was born (1939) in Kennett and remember the "good old days".
