My Web Page Philosophy

This web site is a hobby with me. I am retired, and do not write web pages commercially (although I do maintain a public website on a volunteer basis).

I enjoy putting photos of, and information about, my hometown and other of my interests up on the Internet. Thus, my web site will have a rather limited audience, although there are several good items to be found on this site. (I have hidden some of them pretty deeply in the web site, so keep "turning rocks over" and you might be surprised at what you find.)

It is my intent to inform and to entertain. In no event do I wish to offend anyone, so if you have an objection to something you find on my web site, please let me know so we can talk about it.

I also intend to keep this site "family"-rated, with no n u d i t y,  s e x,  v i o l e n c e, or bad language. I am responsible for all of the information contained on the web pages found on this site, so if you find some mis-spelled names or other errors, please let me know.

Some of the comments found on these pages are personal opinion; some are "tongue-in-cheek", or downright jokes. I hope you can tell the difference between the facts, the opinions, and the jokes.

Recently, parents have become justifiably concerned about having photographs of their children placed on the Internet. At a recent beauty pageant, I was forbidden by the pageant officials to place photos of the pageant winners on my website. (I will note that I received no complaints about this for five years, and will also note that my photos of that pageant were published in a local newspaper for three years.)

However, because I am a parent and a grandparent, and because I understand the concerns of living in this high-technology society, I am removing from my website all of the photographs which I have taken at this particular pageant, as well as photographs which I took at a pageant held at yet another local festival. I am also considering taking all of the Missouri Peach Fair pageant photographs down from my website, although the Peach Fair Board does not seem to believe such photographs are a problem.

You have probably discovered that I often include "links" to other web sites. Although I always review such other sites before linking to them, I cannot guarantee that those other web sites will always contain suitable material. Thus, if you find offensive material on any of the sites linked from my web pages, please let me know via email. Unless there is a "free speech" issue involved, I will probably remove such a link.

I have Visitor Counters on several of my web pages. On the "major" pages, the Visitor Counters are visible. A few of the other pages have "hidden" counters, so I can see what pages are popular with my visitors. I do not put "cookies" on any visitors, and I have no way of knowing who has visited my web site unless you sign my Guestbook, which you are invited to do.

I respectfully request that you do not link any webpage (or website) directly to any of my photos. That especially applies to "high-volume" sites. If my monthly "download" quota is exceeded, I have to pay an additional amount to my web server -- not good for a retiree! Upon request, I will gladly send a file of any of my photos to legitimate users, so you can put the photo on your web server. Note that I do not mind links direct to my webpages (such as the Woodlawn Cemetery database, or Campbell High School graduates), so long as those links only get light to moderate usage. Thanks for helping me stay within my income. (I am not talking about just sending a reference to my website to friends -- I am talking about linking my photos directly onto sites such as "www.AmIcuteOrWhat.com.")

Since this is a hobby with me, I don't always get as many of my photos up on the site as I would like, and often I do not find the time to get photos up quickly. It takes a lot of time to review the photos, edit them digitally, write the web pages, and upload the files to my Internet site.

I hope you enjoy this site. If you do, tell your Internet friends. If you don't, please tell me.

Thanks for dropping by ! -- Hal
